A small thank you goes a long way: marking Thank Your Cleaner Day

Today is Thank Your Cleaner Day, an annual moment dedicated to the cleaning professionals who keep our workplaces clean, safe and healthy, and who too often go unnoticed.

Our client Tork, a global leader in professional hygiene and an Essity brand, champions better hygiene that works for both businesses and people. When it comes to people, none influence hygiene outcomes for the user more than the professional cleaning teams behind the scenes.

The latest research from Tork shows a clear appreciation gap. More than half (56%) of washroom users surveyed agree that cleaning is hard work and that cleaning teams deserve more recognition. Yet those ‘thank yous’ are too infrequently said out loud resulting in job dissatisfaction for 38% of the cleaners surveyed who have left a job because of a lack of recognition and burnout.

The work also has a direct impact on business. Four in five people say hygiene issues in a washroom make them feel worse about the entire business, worsening reputation and negatively impacting trust between consumer and brand. Cleaners don't just keep spaces looking good, they shape how people feel about the places they work and visit.

Inspired by Tork, we wanted to take a moment to show our appreciation for the wonderful cleaners who keep our new Southwark office looking its best every day. With a card and a small gift from the team, we hoped that a small token of our appreciation will make someone’s day a little better and inspire a cultural shift to one more conscious of the essential work that happens in the background to keep things running smoothly.

Professional cleaners often work outside traditional hours and behind the scenes, which makes it easy for their work to go unseen. But recognition doesn't need to be complicated. A simple thank you, a note or a small gesture can go a long way.

So, if you see your cleaner today, why not take a moment to say thank you?
